Max Verstappen praised Red Bull's "incredible" pace after leading the team to another 2022 double at the Azerbaijan GP.

Having missed last year's race win in Baku due to a tire blowout, Verstappen was elated with the top step of the podium.

"You can never get back what you lost last year, but I think our car had an incredible pace today," he told the post-race press conference.

"We were really able to take care of the tires, take the gap and take the lead. Of course, we were also a bit lucky because of (Ferrari's) abandonment, but I think our car was very fast anyway, I could have reduced that gap."

"So of course you take the race into your own hands, but overall I'm really happy with the balance the car had today."

When asked what went so well for him this Sunday in Baku, Verstappen explained, "I don't know, just the behavior of the tires along with the overall grip of the car.

"That's what you need here, to take care of your tires. Also, the team had a double, it was a great day for us."

However, Verstappen wants to avoid over-enthusiasm for the next round in Canada.

"I believe that every weekend is a little bit different. You really have to be precise and also do everything right with the little things in race management, so everything can change."
