Max Verstappen won the sprint race at the Austrian GP and stretched his championship lead again after last week's defeat

After his defeat a week ago in England, Max Verstappen stretched his Formula 1 championship lead again on Saturday (9) with victory in the sprint race at the Austrian GP. The Dutchman took all eight points from his pole position victory on Sunday to reach 189 points for 2022. The gap to second place now stands at 38 points.
The second-placed driver remains Sergio Pérez, who moved up from 13th to fifth place to 151 points with his four wins. Charles Leclerc was second and jumped to 145 in the championship, 44 behind Verstappen.
Carlos Sainz was third in the sprint race and continues to add points after a long period of stagnation. He reached 133 and remains fourth, while George Russell has 116 and is fifth. Only these five riders have crossed the century mark.

Lewis Hamilton occupies sixth place, has 94 points, and a wide advantage over Lando Norris, seventh, with 58. Valtteri Bottas (46), Esteban Ocon (42), and Fernando Alonso (28) complete the top-10. Nicholas Latifi remains the only driver zeroed in 2022.
In the Constructors' World Championship, Red Bull has reached 340 and has a wide and comfortable lead over Ferrari: 62 points. Mercedes has 210, 68 less than the Italians. McLaren (73), Alpine (70), Alfa Romeo (51), AlphaTauri (27), Haas (22), Aston Martin (18), and Williams (3) round out the standings.
