Verstappen asks Red Bull to pay attention to tire wear in England: "Complicated

The reigning world champion also lamented the lack of significant track time in TL1, which made Friday's second session "a guessing game".

The rain got in the way of Max Verstappen and Red Bull's plans at Silverstone. On Friday (01), the first day of Formula 1 action for the British GP, the weather conditions made the reigning world champion do only one lap in the opening session of the day.

In the second free practice session, which Verstappen said turned into a "guessing game", the Dutchman secured fourth place with 1min29s149. Even so, the loss of track time in TL1 was remarkable - in the words of the taurine driver himself.

"It's always a bit tricky after everyone can't drive long enough in the first free practice. It makes TL2 more of a guessing game, so to speak. It wasn't the ideal scenario, but it's not a big problem either," Verstappen said. "We know what we have to work on and we will try to improve in the evening, however tomorrow it will probably be raining, so the conditions will be different regardless," he stressed.

The reigning Formula 1 champion also called for Red Bull's attention to the tire wear the RB18 might encounter at Silverstone.

"It's kind of trial and error. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Today wasn't sensational, but it wasn't that bad either. We are still in the 'cake', we have some things to watch in the car, with the tires as well. We did some full tank laps with the soft compounds, which was good - but here, with all the high speed corners, the tires tend to wear more. Compound management will be a bit tricky, of course," Verstappen finished.
