Race director Michael Masi was fired as a result of the controversial end to the 2021 title race, with new FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayam bringing in two replacements for the new season.

Fernando Alonso has been rebuked for recent criticism of the new regime, and Ben Sulayem has had to back down in recent days after suggesting that drivers should be less political.

"I have full confidence in the FIA president," Alonso said in Baku. "If things are a bit difficult at the moment, I think there is room for improvement and the FIA president will fix the things that need to be fixed."

Ferrari's Charles Leclerc declined to comment specifically on Ben Sulayem or the new race directors, but insisted that he "would like to see a little more consistency."

"There were some things that could definitely be improved," McLaren's Lando Norris agreed.
