Pierre Gasly should "take a look" at the Formula One driver market, according to commentator Marc Surer.
Red Bull has renewed Sergio Perez's contract for another two years, something that has left Gasly furious, according to inside sources.
"I always assumed that Gasly would get another chance in the Red Bull top team," Surer told .
"However, they had to take action after Barcelona because it was clear that Perez is a driver who can really help and take points out of the competition. They have always missed that in the past."
Therefore, Surer thinks it is the right time for Gasly to look at his possibilities in the driver market.
"He should at least take a look. I think McLaren could be a good option for him, but what seems more logical to me would be a move to Alpine.
"I think we can all agree that Gasly is better than Esteban Ocon," Surer added. "So why wouldn't he race for Alpine?"
The problem is that due to Ocon's long-term contract, the French team is split between Fernando Alonso and Oscar Piastri for the second spot.
"They casually gave Ocon a long-term contract, but why?" questioned Surer. "Because they insisted on having a Frenchman in the team."
"But if there is a better Frenchman available, they should hire the best one. Maybe Alpine is also thinking about that."
