Spa-Francorchamps needs to adopt "the American way" if it is to remain on the Formula 1 calendar, a Belgian official has admitted.

It is becoming increasingly clear that the legendary circuit may be left off the 2023 calendar as F1 owner Liberty Media explores new events in Miami and Las Vegas.

The Belgian GP's current contract expires after the 2022 edition.

"It is true that there was a request from F1 to introduce a larger entertainment component," Stijn de Boever, commercial director of the Spa GP, told Italy's.

"They said it's great to have history, but 'we need more'. We decided to listen to them and follow them in the new way of offering F1 events. The American way, with all the entertainment that that involves."

The latest rumor is that if Spa does not close a deal with Liberty, a compromise solution could be an extra championship race with teams having young drivers instead of their regular duos.

A reported that Melchior Wathelet, Spa GP chairman, has returned to Belgium after attending a meeting with Liberty Media officials in London on Tuesday.
