Andreas Seidl takes a positive look at the season so far for McLaren. The fact that the Woking team is now in P4 in the Constructors' Championship is the most they can achieve at the moment.
For McLaren, the season started off difficult, with brake problems during testing and Daniel Ricciardo suffering from a coronavirus infection. After disappointing results in the opening race in Bahrain, the team managed to score points again in Jeddah.
McLaren had strong weekends in Melbourne, managed a podium finish in Imola, and the car received a good upgrade in Barcelona. This upgrade also helped to get a good result in Monaco. During qualifying, McLaren also managed to stay at least on par with a Mercedes, winning one or both.
Speaking to Motorsport-total.com, the German said, "It is definitely positive that after ten races we are fourth in the constructors' championship. Because I think if you are realistic, that is the maximum we can achieve as a team at the moment."
Seidl says that a fourth place at the end of the season would be another success when compared to the teams that are competing for this spot, such as Alpine and Alfa Romeo, which are doing well with their own infrastructure, such as the wind tunnel. Seidl mentions that the team is working on this, but that it is taking a while.
The McLaren team boss says that he now wants to fully concentrate on performing well in the second half of the season and that this also has to be the condition for the team to keep this fourth place.
Seidl also hopes that they can simply bring more consistency to the results and understand the car even better to be able to use it on race weekends so that they can be the fourth strongest team on all circuits.
