Max Verstappen may need to adopt a driving style more similar to that of his teammate Sergio Perez, says Ralf Schumacher.
Perez's victory at the Monaco GP left him just 15 points behind Verstappen in the world championship and in great form behind the wheel of the RB18.
After seven rounds of the 2022 season, the Mexican is just one podium away from matching his total in 2021 and has already renewed his contract with the team.
His recent performance should put Verstappen on full alert, according to Schumacher.
"I don't think Sergio will end up showing the consistency that Max Verstappen possesses," the German wrote in his column for the . "But he was the best driver all weekend in Monaco."
Schumacher believes Verstappen should be trying to figure out why the Mexican made such a big jump from one year to the next.
"Max should see this as an opportunity to learn some things from his teammate," Schumacher continued, arguing that the new Formula One cars look better for Perez.
"Max has a very aggressive driving style. In the past, he has done very well with the heavier cars. On the other hand, the new concept is better suited for Sergio. As a driver who is very good at protecting the tires, he can get more out of the car."
"So Max should try to adopt Sergio's driving style in certain sections of the track and go a little slower into one corner or another."
