Haas had performed well in qualifying last Saturday and confirmed this in the sprint race on Saturday. Kevin Magnussen finished seventh, securing two points for the American team. Mick Schumacher also flirted with the scoring zone, but had a hindrance: Lewis Hamilton.

The young German fought a battle for several laps with the Mercedes driver, who got the better of him and took eighth place. Still, Mick praised the battle with the seven-time champion, which proved the capability of the VF-22 in Austria.

"I think the battle with Lewis was quite fun, it's surprising to see that we were able to fight for so long, and even Perez's Red Bull behind us wasn't much faster, so it was a nice feeling.I think we could have scored today, but we didn't," he said.

Magnussen revealed that the car didn't feel good during the second free practice session in the morning, so they made some adjustments. It's still not ideal, but it makes him hopeful for tomorrow's race.

"I didn't expect we could do that [finish in the points], especially after this morning in practice. It didn't look good, so we made some changes, but the cars are in closed park, so it's very limited how much you can change. The changes worked and the pace was more or less down for the race. We got two points, so I'm very happy and we can certainly fight for points tomorrow, given yesterday's performance. I'm looking forward to another attempt tomorrow," he closed.
