Carlos Sainz still has to wait for his first victory in Formula 1. The Spaniard looked to have a good chance in Canada after a late Safety Car, but in the end he could not pass Max Verstappen.

Afterwards, the current world championship number five was pleased with his second place. "I was accelerating everything," the Ferrari driver said in the post-race interview.

"I mean, I wasn't leaving any inches to the wall and we just didn't have enough pace delta in the hairpin to get it into the chicane. The positive is that we were faster, faster in the whole race, and I just needed a little bit more to win," Sainz commented.

The 27-year-old continued, "I'm happy with the race pace and the way we were able to push Max throughout the race and the timing of the pit stops. Honestly, we tried everything. We came close to winning today. Let's take the positive and keep trying next time.
