Sainz overtakes Hamilton in TL2 at Silverstone

Carlos Sainz led the second free practice for the British GP, narrowly beating Lewis Hamilton and Lando Norris at the Silverstone circuit. After a first session in the rain, TL2 took place in much better conditions, with a completely dry track amid blue skies and pleasant temperatures.

During qualifying efforts on soft tires, it was the Ferrari driver who worked up to the fastest time, clocking 1min28s942. Hamilton finished 0s163 behind Sainz in his updated Mercedes, much to the delight of the home crowd.

Norris - performing a special "Camêra Pedal" this weekend - was next on the timesheet, staying ahead of Red Bull's Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc's Ferrari. Leclerc finished almost half a second behind teammate Sainz, but backed off on one of his laps with the soft compound rubber.

Fernando Alonso was "best of the rest" for Alpine, posting a marginally faster time than Sergio Perez and George Russell in the other Red Bull and Mercedes machines.

Daniel Ricciardo put two McLarens in the top 10, which was completed by Aston Martin driver Lance Stroll.

After Stroll's spin in TL1, there were no noteworthy incidents during the second one-hour session, although Sebastian Vettel lost some track time due to damage to the floorboard of his Aston Martin.
