Carlos Sainz made an excellent start to the British race weekend. The Madrid-born driver set the fastest lap of the second free practice session, ahead of Lewis Hamilton and Lando Norris. The Ferrari driver could do nothing but be pleased with the result.
"It was quite a challenging session," Sainz reflected in a conversation with Sky Sports. "The wind made it difficult to get the right balance for the high-speed sections and the right compromise for the tires in the low-speed ones. Overall we were fast, but it seems there is room for improvement."
Ferrari has one more chance to prepare for qualifying on Saturday afternoon during the third free practice session. Sainz expects it to be a tough challenge to beat rival Red Bull Racing.
"Tomorrow's qualifying could get interesting because of the weather, so those few laps in wet conditions in TL1 were also useful. Let's see what tomorrow brings," added Sainz, who saw his teammate Charles Leclerc finish fifth. That left him behind Max Verstappen, who was fourth.
