Carlos Sainz will have some work to do tomorrow to stay ahead of the Red Bull duo (Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez) and his teammate Charles Leclerc, but the Ferrari driver expected to have to fend them off in the race rather than attack.
The Spaniard believes that pole position was attainable today and that he has a strong chance in the race, despite starting behind his three biggest rivals this season. "It's a shame, but at the same time we made some progress throughout the day and I felt in contention for pole," he told Sky Sports.
"We have a very strong chance in the race as well. I believe we are neck and neck with Red Bull. Normally with 10 lap stint they seem to have a better pace, but it remains to be seen this weekend," the Ferrari driver added.
When asked about how he thought the race might go, Sainz made a bold statement, saying, "Friday's long runs were not long enough to tell us what will happen."
