Carlos Sainz hopes that the return of the public in the stands in Barcelona can help him achieve good results racing 'at home

Carlos Sainz will take his second Spanish GP as a Ferrari driver this weekend. And the difference between one year and another is big. In 2021, the Maranello team was coming from one of its worst seasons to try to recover, and was fighting for the third place in the grid - which it conquered in the end. Now, in 2022, the fight is for the title against Red Bull.
When asked about racing at home after two retirements in five races, Sainz remained optimistic. Especially for the car and the updates that the team will bring to Barcelona.
"The factor of racing 'at home' always helps and this year is my first GP 'at home' as a Ferrari driver with full stands, so it will be very special, something unique that I will remember forever in my life. I want to make the most of it and take advantage of it," he said.

"I think the goal is to take advantage of the good car that Ferrari has made, which allows us to have options to win in every race and try to fight for the championship. It is true that I had two very bad races in a row because two abandonments in this championship will count a lot in the end, but that will not take away my will to fight to win and get the first victory that I have been sleeping since I was a kid," he added.
In 2021, the Catalan circuit was not attended yet because of the pandemic. This year, however, the stands will be full. And, according to the Madrid driver, it could be the boost needed to take a step forward in the World Cup.
"On the laps in and out of the pits we always keep an eye on the stands, there's always a moment to look around and see how many people are involved with the race. This gives me a lot of motivation, gives me good vibes. All of this gives me a good feeling that makes me smile the three or four days I'm at the circuit," he closed.
