George Russell set the eighth best time in the second free practice session of the Hungarian Grand Prix. The Mercedes W13 didn't look good. Lewis Hamilton and Russell looked much weaker than on the previous two weekends.

The progress that the team had suddenly made seemed to have disappeared again on Friday in Hungary. Russell was in P8 and Hamilton set the eleventh fastest time of the session. Russell seems a bit doubtful afterwards. The Briton is not dissatisfied, but acknowledges the difficulties.

"I'm not so sure. Definitely not the smoothest Friday so far. But a bit strange, because we think tomorrow will be a wet qualifying and Sunday will be drastically different. So we've been trying different things with the car. Using it like a test session," Russell told Sky Sports.

Russell at least got a feel for the track on Friday, but in terms of set-up it seems there is still a lot of work to be done: "You can optimize everything for today, but there's no point in that ... it's all for the rest of the weekend. Even though it was hard, it was a productive day. We tried things to learn more about the car.
