It was a far from successful session for the Briton and this was reflected in a post-workout interview with Sky Sports, where the 24-year-old driver commented on his team's performance in Canada so far.
"Ultimately, it wasn't where we wanted it to be. We are way off the pace compared to the two teams in front," the former Formula 2 champion noted, before adding, "We are worse today."
The young talent noted how physically demanding the track was: "Still very uneven to be honest, the stiffness of these cars are just brutal. Here you really feel the stiffness like we did in Monaco, and it's something we're trying to address," concluded the Briton.
When asked about changing his driving style at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, he noted that "I definitely can't touch them as much as we used to. In TL2 that was probably the biggest set-up deviation Lewis and I have had all season."
"We went in two drastically different directions and we'll probably be able to find the middle ground between the two. We are working hard. We just need to make sure we qualify ahead of the middle of the grid," Russell pointed out.
