George Russell struggled to advance into Q3 when rain fell in the final session, and despite the promise shown at Mercedes throughout the weekend, the young Brit was hoping for a better qualifying, much more like his teammate Lewis Hamilton, who finished in P5 at the end of the session.

"Definitely disappointed. As the session progressed, everything slowly got worse. I had good confidence in Q1 and was in the top three most of the time, but I didn't have that in Q3 when it mattered," the Mercedes driver revealed when talking to Sky Sports.

Russell continued in the interview, "The car had pace to be P4 or P5. I made a mistake."

Although the 24-year-old driver is optimistic for tomorrow. "There is promise, the pace in the dry and with plenty of fuel they can be on the same level as the guys in front. Starting from P8 will not be an easy task," concluded the Briton.
