Mercedes is increasingly consolidating its position as the third force in the 2022 Formula 1 season. Still, the gap to Red Bull and Ferrari is big: so, it is necessary that everything goes right so that, when one of the teams ahead suffers from failures, they can take advantage of it.

And that's exactly what happened to George Russell at the Azerbaijan GP on Sunday. In the race in Baku, Carlos Sainz had a hydraulic problem, while Charles Leclerc saw his engine smoking. The Mercedes driver took advantage of it and, with that, secured a little place on the podium.

"You need to be in the front pack at the end to enjoy it. Many thanks to everyone at Braxton and Brixworth for putting together a car that was able to make it to the end of the race here. It's not easy this year with everything that's been going on," Russell celebrated.

The Mercedista re-emphasized the problem of quiques in F1 2022, an issue that seems to plague the Silver Arrows the most - and which persists in the W13. "The cars have been going through a torrid period, with all the quiques," said the driver who, precisely for this reason, again highlighted his happiness with his third place in Baku.
