Rosberg: Hamilton "hates" losing to teammate

Nico Rosberg heaped more praise on George Russell for his performance at Mercedes and revealed what makes Lewis Hamilton deeply annoyed.

Replacing Valtteri Bottas as Hamilton's teammate for the 2022 season, Russell has been regularly outperforming the seven-time world champion, and Rosberg called his performance brilliant, especially considering the current level of the Mercedes car.

"Let's focus on George. What a fantastic job he's been doing, he's really phenomenal with that car, which has been very difficult to drive," Rosberg told .

"To be so consistent, to drive so well without making any mistakes and always getting the most out of the equipment is brilliant, really brilliant."

Rosberg also praised the fact that Russell took his chances in qualifying in treacherous conditions in Canada rather than simply settling for a top six position.

"On Saturday, he could have thought 'okay, be safe, secure another fourth or fifth place,' but no, he said 'I'm going to risk everything and be the only driver to put the slicks on. I only care about pole position. It was really amazing to watch at that moment.

Rosberg also acknowledged Hamilton's impressive race in Montreal, where he returned to the podium. However, he claimed that losing to a teammate makes the seven-time champion quite uncomfortable.

"Lewis is driving at his best. He's just been having an extremely unlucky season with all the different things against him. This was a normal weekend and he delivered in his usual amazing way."

"The car was really decent in the race. I thought it was fantastic how George moved forward after the start, passing one car after another in the hairpin."

"The driver duo is very strong, amazing, but make no mistake, Lewis fervently hates being behind a teammate, so he is ultra motivated and trying his hardest internally."
