Ricciardo laments DRS failure and lack of grip in "sad" British GP

Daniel Ricciardo failed to score in a race with six pit stops and complained about his McLaren's lack of grip and a rear wing problem that prevented him from using DRS to overtake rivals

Daniel Ricciardo continues to have a disappointing Formula 1 season in 2022. The Australian has scored in only three of the ten races so far and is 43 points behind teammate Lando Norris in the drivers' standings. The British GP last Sunday (3) was just another underwhelming result, with Ricciardo finishing 13th in a race that had six pit stops and complaining about a lack of grip in his McLaren.

"It was a pretty sad race. As soon as the race restarted, I had grip issues. I just felt like I wasn't operating at the same level of grip as the others. I was being swallowed up and I couldn't do anything about it, and that was our pace throughout the race," lamented Daniel.

Besides the lack of grip, Ricciardo also suffered from another problem during the race at Silverstone. His DRS failed in the beginning of the race and, to prevent the device from being open again, the Australian didn't use the system anymore, which harmed him in the battles on track.

"Something went down, and then I remember braking at turn 6 and the car was completely off balance. I thought I had a flat tire, but when I looked back I saw that the DRS was open, so we had a failure. Obviously, we couldn't use it afterwards, because it could get open again, so I couldn't attack the rivals. We just weren't fast, so I hope we can find something. It's a short time until Austria, but hopefully we can find something," said the Australian.

With a new chance to recover already this Sunday (10) in the Austrian GP, Ricciardo prefers to avoid any kind of prediction after a season with ups and downs. His only expectation is to understand what happened at Silverstone in order to have a car with more grip for the race in Spielberg.

"Honestly, this year, I have no idea. It's been very erratic, I can't predict anything this year. Obviously, today was not a good race and we certainly had problems. I hope to find the reasons for that, and if I do, we will arrive more confident in Austria. If not, I hope that when the car goes on track we will have more grip than today," concluded Ricciardo.
