Despite Red Bull leading the team in both championships, all is not perfect for the Vespa yet. A new update should now solve a problem that the Dutch driver has been facing.
In the races, Max Verstappen usually rivals well against his rivals, but in qualifying he has been losing to Charles Leclerc - who has done the last four poles. Sometimes he has also lost out to his teammate Sergio Perez. This is partly due to the fact that the Vespa's braking heats up the brakes too quickly, which means he can't bring the RB18 to the limit in a full lap compared to Leclerc.
But that problem may be solved at this Canadian GP. Red Bull Racing is switching to new calipers made in conjunction with Brembo. The calipers have received an anti-superheat treatment, keeping the braking system less hot than before. The new part is much darker than the old calipers.
Important role for brakes in Canada
The Bulls have not confirmed anything about the possible modification, but now would be an ideal time to introduce this upgrade to the brakes. The Gilles Villeneuve circuit is known to be very demanding on the brakes. If Max Verstappen wants to be at the front after qualifying, an upgrade in this area would not be a luxury.
In any case, Max Verstappen will not be bothered by Charles Leclerc this time. The Monegasque was punished by ten grid positions because he had his engine electronics replaced, exceeding the quota.
