Red Bull advocates Gasly to continue at AlphaTauri in 2023: "It's the best alternative

Pierre Gasly's season is a far cry from the excellent results he achieved last year. It is quite true that the biggest culprit is perhaps the AT03, as the Frenchman can't get much performance out of it. And, as if the bad start in 2022 wasn't enough, the #10 also saw Red Bull renew Sergio Perez until the end of 2024, ending the chances of another promotion to the top team.

That is why the Taurinos' consultant Helmut Marko explains that there is no better way out for Pierre but the team from Faenza.

"Before Perez signed his contract, of course I spoke with Gasly," Marko said in an interview with German website Formel1. "We have to see what will happen after 2023. What is the alternative for him? I don't think at the moment there is an alternative that is significantly better than AlphaTauri," he added.

Gasly arrived in Formula 1 at the end of 2017 with the then Toro Rosso. Two years later, he moved up to the top team, but failed to perform like Max Verstappen and was replaced by Alexander Albon after just 12 races.

Back at Toro Rosso, which became AlphaTauri in 2020, Gasly was reborn. He took his first category win at the 2020 Italian GP and passed the 100-point mark last season. The counterpoint, however, is precisely the current season, which denotes the Frenchman's bad moment, while the Mexican surprises by his performance.

"If you look at Red Bull's history, there is one particular characteristic that sets us apart: our continuity and future planning. So we wanted to be clear about the coming years," Marko concluded.

The next commitment now is the Azerbaijan GP, which takes place this weekend, June 10-12.
