Ralf Schumacher impressed the spectators at the Austrian Grand Prix by setting a faster time than the current Formula 1 cars.

The German was again driving his 2003 Williams car, whose V10 engine had its power reduced from the original 950 hp to 850 hp.

Lap times have not been officially clocked or published, but some have claimed that Schumacher was clearly faster than the 2022 cars.

"I was faster, but I won't say how much," Ralf confirmed to .

When asked to explain the anomaly of a nearly 20-year-old car being faster than a current machine, the German pointed to weight as the main reason.

"Today's cars are almost 200 kg heavier. Safety is what makes cars so heavy today," Schumacher added.
