Ralf calls for attention and criticizes Mick Schumacher in Monaco: "The accident was his fault

Haas had a tough life in Monaco. Not only did Kevin Magnussen leave Sunday's race after problems, but Mick Schumacher suffered another hard crash of the season. He lost control of the VF-22 at turn 24 and crashed into the soft-wall barrier. He came out unscathed, but the picture was frightening as the car broke in half.

His uncle and former Formula One driver, Ralf Schumacher, talked about the race in Monte Carlo and did not spare his nephew any criticism. With the budget ceiling being a much discussed issue due to the high costs of the season, the elder Schumacher understands that mistakes like Mick's cannot happen anymore.

"Mick had a weekend to forget," wrote Ralf, in his column on the German Sky Sports website. "The accident in the race was his fault. Other drivers went through that point without any problems, but not him," he added.

"At first I thought he had hit the barrier with his car and had a tire that was flat, but that was not the cause of the accident. He drove over the wet part, you can't make that mistake. So much so that he was punished mercilessly [with the accident], as we saw. Not only is his race over, but his car was also badly damaged, which will have consequences for the team budget," he continued.

The other serious accident for #47 was in Saudi Arabia, during qualifying. He was even taken to hospital, but fortunately nothing more serious happened. Even so, after seven rounds, Schumacher still hasn't scored a point. Only Ralf, after criticizing him for Monaco, also gives an encouragement to the young driver.

"There were strong races too. I hope the team will bring updates. You can race all you want, but it gets harder and harder to keep up with the rest," Ralf explained.

"In any case, something has to be done to make Mick's life a little easier. Mick has to learn that mistakes like that can't happen, there's no doubt about that. When he became [F2 champion in 2020], he showed that he can go through difficult periods in a season," he closed.
