Pérez rules out going to other categories when he leaves F1: "I will take care of my children

Sergio Pérez said he has no interest in racing in Indy, Endurance or even FE when he leaves F1. The Mexican driver also emphasized the pride he feels for achieving a successful career in the category

Having renewed his contract with Red Bull for two more seasons in Formula 1, Sergio Pérez admitted that he is not attracted to other categories, so much so that he sees himself fully focused on his family when it is time to hang up his helmet. The Mexican driver also talked about how much the category means to him and how it feels to be the only Latin American on the grid today.

Pérez has been busy in the 2022 season, and the apex of this first half came in the last round, with the victory in the traditional Monaco GP. In the fight for the title, since he is only 15 points behind the leader and teammate Max Verstappen, the Red Bull driver was questioned in Monte Carlo about his post-F1 future.

"I have no interest, to be honest," Pérez said when asked about Indy, Endurance or even the growing Formula E. "I don't know if I will race in Endurance one day. I don't think so. When I leave F1, I need to go back [home] and take care of my kids. I already have three, so I will be quite busy," he joked.

On the current grid, Pérez is not only the only Mexican, but also the only Latin American present. In Monaco, he wore a special helmet to honor his compatriot Pedro Rodríguez, the first representative of his country to win in F1, and dedicated his victory to Mexico.

"I am the only Mexican, or even Latin American, driver on the grid. So this shows how difficult it is for us - not that it is easy for European drivers - to get into F1 and have a successful career in this sport. It is very difficult, but I have to say that I am extremely proud of that," he concluded.

Formula One returns to action this weekend for the eighth round of the season in Azerbaijan. GRANDE PRÊMIO follows all the activities at the Baku circuit LIVE and IN REAL TIME.
