The Red Bull Mexican was 0s282 off pole-position in Baku and spoke of the mistake that took away his chance to fight with Leclerc for the lead on Sunday

Sergio Pérez regretted the crash into the wall of the Baku circuit during Q3 this Saturday (11) that took away any chance of winning the pole-position, obtained on a flying lap by Ferrari's Charles Leclerc.
Despite starting ahead of teammate and reigning world champion Max Verstappen for the second consecutive time in the 2022 season, the Czech's 0s282 difference to the leader made him feel strongly about the problems experienced throughout qualifying in Azerbaijan.
"When Q3 started, I hit the wall a few times, it was a bit much but luckily I managed to survive. We had a problem with the engine at the second attempt, we couldn't start it and so we lost."

The Mexican Red Bull driver went on to explain that losing a few tenths of a second, as it was, is a decisive factor to come out on top in Baku. "At any moment, you can make a mistake and that's it. Who knows if it would have been enough for pole, but Charles [Leclerc] did an excellent lap."
For Sunday's race, Pérez knows that his performance throughout the weekend does put him in with a chance of victory. "It's a very long race ahead, so the only certainty we have to have is to fight for the win and we will fight for it," he added.
