Pérez lists problems and draws inspiration from Verstappen to be "competitive" in Canada

Red Bull's Mexican, only 11th in TL2, saw teammate Max Verstappen lead both sessions on Friday in Montreal

With a great pace in Monaco and Azerbaijan, the expectation was that Sergio Pérez would continue the good moment of the season in Montreal. However, what we saw on Friday (17) was a very timid 'Checo' in the two sessions of the day in Canada.

In TL2, the Mexican driver was only 11th, outside the top-10. Because of this, Pérez admits: it is difficult to make any relevant analysis of the RB18. What remains is to list the problems that the energy car faced at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.

"Unfortunately, there's not much to read into today's sessions. To really work on the car, you need to have a good pace and then work from there, which I couldn't do today," said 'Czech', before giving his analysis.

"We had a problem with the setup on our pace with low fuel, but luckily we were able to figure it out. And the long runs were a little more representative, but we still had a problem. Hopefully we can work it out tomorrow," he concluded.

However, no heads down for the driver. Pérez stressed he trusts the work of Red Bull's mechanics and engineers and aims to use the performance of Max Verstappen - a teammate who led both sessions of the day - as inspiration.

"I'm a little behind, but if everything goes well tonight, we are able to make the right settings to be competitive tomorrow. Let's see what the weather does for qualifying because it can really shake things up. Max (Verstappen) looks strong, which gives me hope to make my car competitive when it matters on Saturday," he finished.
