Sergio Pérez announced on Wednesday that he will lead the Team Mexico team in the E1, 100% electric boat racing championship

Sergio Pérez announced on Wednesday (27) the creation of a team to compete in the E1, pioneer championship of 100% electric boat racing. The Red Bull driver will lead Team Mexico, which will have a boat with the colors of his country.
Checo is close to Alejandro Agag, a Spanish businessman who is one of the co-founders of E1 and who played an important role in the creation of other electric categories, such as Formula E and Extreme E. The Mexican driver raced for Barwa Addax in GP2 in 2010, which was Agag's team, and now joins the entrepreneur in the electric boats endeavor.
"Because of my relationship with Alejandro, I always kept an eye on what he was doing in various championships. I think what he has achieved by promoting more sustainable forms of motorsports is commendable. Seeing a race team compete under the Mexican flag in a global championship will be incredible, and I can't wait to see RaceBird in action for the first time," Pérez said in a statement released by the category.

"I have heard many great stories about the boat and this exciting product that E1 is trying to create for the fans at the city events. I'm sure this will be a great challenge in my career and a great learning experience," said the Mexican.
The RaceBird, the boat that will be used by the twelve E1 teams, has a maximum speed of 93 km/h. The boat uses a hydrofoil tenology that raises it above the water level, reducing drag and maximizing the use of energy. So far, Team Mexico is only the second team to confirm participation in the championship, along with Venice.
While the championship has not confirmed its calendar and participating teams, Pérez remains focused on his duties at Red Bull. Formula 1 returns this Sunday (31) for the Hungarian Grand Prix, with complete coverage byGRANDE PRÊMIO. The 13th round of the World Championship will be the last before the traditional European summer break.
