Nelson Piquet has said that condemnation of his comments about Lewis Hamilton is "bullshit," insisting that he said "nothing wrong."
The three-time world champion used a racially offensive term to refer to Hamilton. The comments were made during a podcast in November last year, but only surfaced last month.
Piquet used the term when blaming Hamilton for his controversial collision with Max Verstappen - his daughter Kelly's boyfriend - at last year's British GP.
Piquet's words were widely condemned. Not only was he banned from the Formula One paddock as punishment, but the British Racing Drivers' Club (BRDC) suspended the Brazilian's membership.
Piquet commented on the controversy in the paddock of the Le Mans Classic last weekend.
"I don't really care, it doesn't disrupt my life," he told . "I'm here with my friends, we're having fun, that's it."
Piquet apologized for the term he used to describe Hamilton, but explained that the word was taken out of context, claiming that it does not have a racial connotation in Brazil.
"That's all bullshit, I'm not a racist," he added. "There is nothing, nothing I said was wrong. What I said is a very mild word - we even use it with some of our white friends."
"I used that word almost a year ago in the interview and they make that up. It caused some problems for me, but to be honest with you, I don't really care."
"Here, I have no obligations to do anything, no publicity, just running around a bit, and I'm really enjoying myself."
