Sergio Perez did not have a good first day in Canada. The Mexican complained of problems with the setup and hopes to correct them before qualifying.

While Max Verstappen was at the top of the leaderboard during the first and second free practice sessions in Canada, Perez was twice far behind his teammate. In TL1 Perez still finished fourth, but in TL2 the world championship number two did not make it past eleventh place.

"Unfortunately, there's not much we can read into today's sessions, to really work the car you need to have a good pace and then work from there, which I couldn't do today," Perez said.

"We had a problem with the setup in our runs with low fuel, but luckily we were able to fix it and the race simulations were a little more representative, but we still had a problem," the Red Bull driver continued.

"Hopefully tomorrow (Saturday) we can sort it all out. I'm a little behind, but if everything goes well tonight, we are able to make the right compromises to be competitive tomorrow," he hopes.

"Let's see what the weather does for qualifying tomorrow, because it can really shake things up. Max looks strong, which gives me hope that we can make my car competitive when it matters," concluded the Mexican.
