Sergio Perez was hoping to have a good recovery race at the Canadian GP, but his RB18 had a mechanical failure after only eight laps.
"Reliability problem again, I lost traction and got stuck in one gear. I don't know what really happened. I'm disappointed to leave without points," the Mexican told .
After strong weekends in Monaco and Azerbaijan, Perez seemed to have definitely entered the title fight, so the fact that he zeroed out in Montreal is a huge blow.
"It was not a perfect weekend and I still believe we could have got a great result. It happened on the exit of turn 7. The abandonments will be extremely painful," he added.
According to Helmut Marko, Perez's failure could be related to his crash in qualifying. In fact, the gearbox was at the end of its useful life, but it shouldn't have broken.
