Sergio Perez was a protagonist during the Azerbaijan GP. Partly due to the retirements of Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz, he drove convincingly to a second place, which again earned him many points for his team.
The Mexican made a good start from second place and managed to overtake Leclerc, putting him at the front of the driver pack. After Sainz dropped out and Leclerc's tire change, he had Max Verstappen behind him and was soon passed by his teammate. He then managed to hold on to second place and secured the fastest lap of the race.
"Unfortunately, we missed the VSC stop. There was some miscommunication and by the time we wanted to, it was too late. We were a bit unlucky there because that would have made our race when we were leading," Perez pointed out.
Perez did not think it was a problem to let Verstappen pass. "I think it was the right decision by the team because at that moment Max was faster, it's a good result and you know that here anything can happen. In the end it's a double and a good result for the team," the Red Bull driver added.
