Palmer points out which driver should have been punished in Monaco

Jolyon Palmer believes that Alex Albon should have been punished by the commissioners for harming Ferrari during the Monaco GP.

Despite being at Williams, Albon is still linked to Red Bull and may have helped Max Verstappen overtake Charles Leclerc in Monte Carlo, according to Palmer.

He did this by slowing the Monegasque by "a full lap" even though he was given blue flags to alert him to a faster car behind.

Leclerc's teammate, Carlos Sainz, blamed Nicholas Latifi, also of Williams, for the loss of victory in the principality.

Sainz lost two seconds on a lap behind the Canadian before going through the tunnel, which allowed eventual winner Sergio Perez to leave him behind during the pit-stop phase.

Commenting on the footage of the , Palmer expressed sympathy for Latifi, who he said had given way at the first available opportunity.

However, the former Formula One driver doesn't think Albon did everything he could to get out of the way, so he deserved a penalty from the commissioners, according to Palmer.

"Sainz was stuck behind Latifi throughout the entire lap and couldn't use the Ferrari's pace," Palmer explained. "That was the loss of time that cost Carlos Sainz the victory in the Monaco GP."

"It is very difficult to give passage to cars in Monaco. Latifi gets out of the way almost at the first opportunity when that is actually possible."

"Unlike Alex Albon, who had to take a penalty for holding Charles Leclerc on intermediate tires for a whole lap. That cost Leclerc three seconds before his second stop, which at the very least would have been enough to keep him ahead of Max Verstappen."

"Latifi did differently, he gave way to Sainz in the tunnel. It was simply a tremendous lack of luck (from Sainz)."
