Lando Norris ended Hungary's TL2 in second place and sees McLaren in a position to make things happen in qualifying, but he knows that the team does not usually maintain the same standard on Saturday
McLaren stunned on Friday (29) in Hungary, with both cars in the top-5 of TL2. Lando Norris was second, behind Charles Leclerc, but he was not that excited. As much as the Briton knows he has a fast car in his hands, he remembered that McLaren has a history of driving harder in TL2 than when the grid is set.
Norris praised the car's performance and also pointed out that Hungaroring matches well with the characteristics of the orange car. But he prefers to be calm before projecting anything.
"Things seem to be going well. The car is coming along well, it seems to have married the characteristics of the track a bit more as well. But we are also always faster in TL2 than in qualifying," he said.
Getting a little more excited, Lando recalled that he started on the third row in Paul Ricard and said he might be able to get even more out of the front in Hungary.
"We know that everybody, especially Ferrari, Red Bull and Mercedes usually grow into Saturday. I think we are doing well, the car is in a reasonable condition for the weekend. I think a little better than we were at Paul Ricard. I don't expect to fight for pole, but to be in a better position than in France," he added.
Norris is seventh in the season with 70 points, while McLaren is fifth in the Constructors' World Championship with 89 points.
