Lando Norris accepted that it was "fair" that he was prevented from overtaking Daniel Ricciardo in the final laps of the Azerbaijan GP.
The McLaren drivers fought each other twice during the race in Baku, despite their very different strategies.
In the first stint of the race, Ricciardo was faster and was instructed not to pass Norris because the Briton was attempting an overcut on Fernando Alonso that didn't work.
Later, Ricciardo himself was stuck behind Alonso, with Norris catching up to him and desperate to overtake. He was ordered not to do so.
During the race, Norris argued with the team over the radio: "Why hold the position? That was for strategy, this is for a finishing position." Afterwards, he commented in frustration, "All right, I'll stay behind him."
However, having talked to his team after the event, Norris accepted that staying behind his teammate was the right thing to do.
"He helped me in the middle of the race and it was fair for me to help him, or not pass him at the end," he said on the podcast .
"It's just annoying, you never want to do that. Especially if there's no risk or worry at the end, it was just one against the other. But no, I did the team game, so I'm happy with that."
Despite coming in behind Ricciardo in Baku, Norris still has a 35-point lead over the Australian, who has been having a difficult start to the season.
"It's eighth or ninth place either way, I don't really care. I'm just here to win races and a championship. I'm not going to win the championship this year."
"Instead, the important thing is to secure the most points for the constructors' championship. The more we do, the more money we make and the easier it is for the team to spend on good things."
