The Nissan e.dams team earned more points for its account in Round 11 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, 2021/2022 season, thanks to Sébastien Buemi's fifth-place run in positions worth a podium place at the start of the race.
The Swiss driver advanced to the qualifying duels at the Brooklyn Street Circuit and started fifth in the first race of the double round. Quick on the start, he progressed to third position early in the race, where he held on for several laps.
Later in the race, a sudden downpour caused confusion on the track and caught a number of drivers by surprise, including Buemi. Maximilian Günther was running outside the points, but held his own amid the treacherous conditions and worked his way into the top 10 before the red flag. Race Control made the decision not to restart the race, resulting in Buemi qualifying fifth and Günther 12th.
In Round 12, the team was unable to have the same regularity presented on Saturday, and both Buemi and Günther narrowly missed the Duel stage. The duo finished the race in 13th and 17th respectively, with the German disqualified after the end of the race due to excessive power usage.
"This track proved to be more suitable for our car as we had anticipated and we were able to present a better pace on Saturday," said Tommaso Volpe, Nissan Formula E General Manager and General Director of the Nissan Formula E Team. "Séb did a very good job, evolved into the Duel phase and almost made it to the semi-finals. Max also came close, but ran into the wall on the last lap and ended up missing out. Our mechanics did an amazing job to finish the repairs in time for the race. Both drivers were happy with the feel of the car, and Séb managed to run third for part of the race. After the red flag and the , Séb qualified 5th and took 10 points for the team. Max also had a good pace, but didn't manage to get the points. On Sunday we couldn't show the same speed and now we are trying to find out why. This was another difficult qualifying session - a few tenths of a second would have made a huge difference, but it wasn't this time. We couldn't have done much more in the race and that's disappointing in view of our performance on Saturday, but we are happy with the points and will work to finish the season on a positive note."
The penultimate race weekend of this Formula E season takes place in two weeks, with the category returning to the unrivaled ExCel London, the London circuit that features both indoor and outdoor sections.
Nissan is competing in this 100% electric world championship to bring the excitement and fun of zero emission electric vehicles to a global audience. As part of its goal to achieve carbon neutrality across its operations and product life cycle by 2050, Nissan intends to electrify all new vehicles sold by the early 2030s in major markets. The Japanese automaker intends to use its expertise in transferring technology between the track and the street to offer even better electric vehicles to its customers.
Driver's comments
Sébastien Buemi
"On Saturday we had a great day, we made it to the Duel stage and scored a lot of points. The fifth place in qualifying was an excellent result and we showed our pace with a nice start, running 3rd for a long time. The 10 points from 5th place is a solid result and we are very happy with it. The second race was a bit more difficult; we didn't have the same speed in qualifying and couldn't get any further. Still, we are pleased with our points and will take the lessons learned to London."

"The weekend started well, I had good feeling on the track and a good pace. In qualifying, I was third after the first race and did another good lap, but unfortunately I ran into the wall and we didn't make it to the Duels, which would have been possible considering our speed. I thank the team for the fantastic job they did to fix the car in time to be in the , so here's my thanks to them. The starting position compromised our chances, but we still managed to progress and were seventh when the red flag came out. The race was not restarted, which is a shame, because we dropped to 12th with the . On Sunday we had a good start and fought hard with the closest cars. Unfortunately, I was thrown out and lost several positions. In the end I was disqualified. This weekend was not supposed to be mine, but I will keep fighting in London in two weeks.
