Toto Wolff did not hide his happiness with the pole-position won by George Russell on Saturday (30). The Mercedes boss was surprised, but reiterated that the team worked hard to get the car right, especially after a Friday practice session full of doubts. More relieved that things went well in qualifying, he even 'joked'.

"We just said we need to write down everything we did this morning, including what we ate and drank, in order to repeat it all so we can win," he joked.

"The truth is that we saw from the beginning of qualifying that our tires were in the right window and the car was balanced. They drove very well and are gaining confidence race by race. That was the result," he said.

The position of honor earned by the young Englishman was the first for Mercedes this season. The last time the Silver Arrows started from pole was at the 2021 Saudi Arabian GP. That's why Wolff believes his drivers can make a good step tomorrow.

"That's a solid result, we were always off the pace in laps started and now we're on pole, so let's see what we can do tomorrow. If we have the pace, I feel we'll be back in the battles at the front again," he closed.
