Red Bull Racing team consultant Dr. Helmut Marko is so impressed with Max Verstappen that he would never want to compete against the reigning world champion in a hypothetical situation. The Austrian doesn't think that would be any fun at all.
Marko thinks that Verstappen is of such an exceptional class that it is no fun for anyone to compete against him. In 2021, the Dutchman managed to beat seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton in a very heated battle that lasted all season.
In the Red Bulletin team magazine, Marko also said that he would never want to compete against Verstappen in his life. "No. Racing against Max Verstappen would not have been fun. He is always on the limit, regardless of the circumstances. In fact, he always has the car under perfect control," he said.
The team advisor recalls the world champion's performance in Brazil in 2016. During one of his most famous races, Verstappen lost control of the steering wheel in the rain. Sliding sideways onto the straight at 300 km/h, he regained control of the car. Marko: "Nobody can do what he does."
Finally, Marko dares to make a comparison with another great Formula 1 driver, Ayrton Senna. According to the Austrian, Senna and Verstappen are similar in terms of personality, work ethic, self-confidence, and charisma. However, Marko adds that he prefers not to make comparisons between Formula 1 drivers.
