Magnussen foresees "challenging" quiques in Canada: "Complicated for new cars"

Kevin Magnussen said that the Montreal circuit usually has a lot of undulations, so this could be an extra headache for the drivers because of the stiffer cars this year

Porpoising, the dominant issue for the 2022 Formula 1 season, was quite a challenge in Baku, and judging by the characteristics of the next circuit, Montreal, Kevin Magnussen believes that drivers will still have a lot of headaches - literally - ahead of them. The Haas driver explained that the usual undulations of the asphalt could be an added complication for the new cars.

At the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, the quakes that usually occur at high speeds were even stronger because of the more than 2km long straight at the Azerbaijan circuit. In addition to Mercedes, which has been greatly harmed by porpoising throughout the season, other drivers also complained about the effect, such as Pierre Gasly and Esteban Ocon. The Alpine driver even said that the FIA (International Automobile Federation) should intervene to mitigate the problem that is caused by the return of the ground effect.

"Montreal is a pretty cool place," Magnussen said. "It's a cool track, pretty unique, like a street circuit, but hybrid. I really like it. It has a lot of undulations, so it will be tricky for the new cars, because they are very stiff. It will be a challenge, no doubt, but a good challenge.

Without scoring points since the Emilia-Romagna GP, fourth round of the calendar, the driver had problems in the last two races and was even worried about the Ferrari engine's reliability. For next Sunday, Magnussen reiterated that the goal is to get back in the scoring zone and hopes that, this time, the car doesn't let him down.

"The goal is to score points, no doubt. I think we have the car for it, and I'm looking forward to racing in Canada," concluded the Dane.
