Ferrari has decided to replace Charles Leclerc's entire engine this weekend. This means that the Monegasque will suffer a major penalty and will have to start the race in the last position in Canada on Sunday.
Leclerc's replacement of parts in his engine was up in the air all weekend. After last weekend's Azerbaijan Grand Prix, from which he left with engine problems, his team was busy behind the scenes trying to fix it. In doing so, a penalty was seemingly inevitable.
On Friday night, Ferrari announced that it would install several new parts, which would mean a ten-place grid penalty for Leclerc. Saturday it appears that the entire engine will be replaced and Leclerc will start from the last position.
Leclerc has a tough challenge ahead of him to get to the points. The world championship number three cannot afford to fall behind Max Verstappen, but that seems impossible to avoid after the Canadian GP.
