Leclerc loses power with race in hand and abandons the Spanish GP

Charles Leclerc was quietly following along in the lead of this Sunday's (22) Spanish GP when he saw his Ferrari suddenly lose power. "No, no! What happened?!" the Monegasque was saying over the radio, in disbelief knowing he had the race in his hands.

Ferrari confirmed that the driver had an engine problem in his F1-75. "We had to withdraw Charles' car because of an as yet unidentified power unit problem," the team said in an official statement.

Leclerc abandoned on lap 27 and now risks leaving Barcelona out of the lead of the 2022 World Championship. Without the chance to score points in the Spanish round, all Max Verstappen needs is a second place and the fastest lap to become the new season leader.
