Leclerc ends disappointed with Q3 mistake in England: "I didn't deserve the pole"

The Ferrari Monegasque admitted he was disappointed that a spin at the end of Q3 took away any chance of pole position at Silverstone

Charles Leclerc tried hard to get another pole position in the 2022 Formula 1 season, but a mistake at the end of Q3 on Saturday (2) at Silverstone took away any chance of getting out in front for the sixth time this year.

The Ferrari driver admitted he was disappointed with the spin he made and that he was not worthy of starting at the front at the English circuit. "I knew that lap was where I had to do my best, but I didn't, so I didn't deserve to be on pole," Leclerc said.

However, the Monegasque is far from throwing in the towel to get his third win of the year and pull even closer to his rival, Max Verstappen. "P3 is still a good starting position. If we can put it all together, we might have a chance to win."

The race on Sunday (3) has a real possibility of rain, and with that, a range of different strategies opens up. Leclerc knows he has a good car and it is in this scenario that he puts himself with a chance to win at Silverstone.

"We have the pace, it's there. If we have a clean race, it's important to have a good start and then manage the tires well. I think the strategy is between one and two stops, so it will be interesting to see how we will handle them," Charles said.

Finally, the season's vice-leader was keen to praise the work of Ferrari teammate Carlos Sainz, who got his first career pole. "I'm disappointed for myself, but happy for Carlos, he did a great job today," he added.
