Jake Dennis controlled the first Formula E London E-Prix, but second place puts Stoffel Vandoorne in a very comfortable position in the championship fight. Vandoorne put pressure on pole at several stages during the race, but was also urged not to take unnecessary risks because of the title implications.

Dennis looked in imperious form in any case, and won by 2s2 to give Andretti his first win since leaving BMW at the end of last season, returning it to independent status.

Vandoorne was already in a strong position after qualifying, as all of his title rivals had problems. Two of them getting involved in a tangle at the first corner boosted him even further.

A three-way clash left Edoardo Mortara 18th in a damaged Mercedes Venturi, and Jean-Eric Vergne firmly in the middle of the grid (where he would later collide with Sebastien Buemi on his way to 13th place), with Sam Bird being the other driver involved and immediately out of the race at his and Jaguar's home.

But Bird's teammate Mitch Evans at least kept his title hopes alive with a great race from 14th to sixth. Mercedes had two cars on the podium as defending champion Nyck de Vries narrowly edged out Nick Cassidy.

The Envision driver Cassidy left the two mods behind and as a result was able to fly around the grid, although he couldn't overcome a very defensive De Vries for the podium. Oliver Askew supported completed the top five in the second Andretti car.

Sergio Sette Câmara had a heroic race for zero reward. Having qualified his Dragon Penske fourth, he briefly took third after a great dive over de Vries.

Unsurprisingly, he could not match the power usage of the other leaders and began to drop off in the final minutes before stopping on the last lap. Lucas di Grassi came in ninth.
