The four-time world champion took ninth place on the starting grid for the Azerbaijan GP, but was not entirely satisfied with his performance in Baku
Sebastian Vettel had a great performance in qualifying practice for the Formula 1 Azerbaijan GP on Saturday (11). The four-time world champion put his Aston Martin in Q3 - while his teammate Lance Stroll crashed and stayed in Q1 - and took ninth position on the starting grid for the race in Baku.
Still, the German was not entirely satisfied with his qualifying performance. Vettel justified such a stance, claiming that a vacuum on the main straight of the Azeri circuit could have catapulted AMR22 onto the starting grid.
"Ninth is not first, but I think for us it's very good and puts us in a good position. It was very close, but I was waiting for a vacuum at the end, which maybe could have put us sixth. I think I need more friends (laughs)," joked the four-time champion.
"I was happy with the final lap I had, and we only had one set of tires. The used tires were used for us to advance to Q3. So overall, I think it was a good session. We came up just short of Yuki (Tsunoda) in eighth, but still, good place," added Vettel.
