Lewis Hamilton said that Mercedes' performance in the last two races has raised his hopes for a win later this season
Lewis Hamilton took his third podium of the 2022 Formula One season last Sunday (3) at Silverstone. After suffering with the car at several stages so far this year, the Briton said that his feelings about the car's performance have changed in recent weeks. Now, the German team can see the changes taking effect in the W13, and the good performance at the British GP renews the heptachampion's hopes.
"This is not the way we like to think about it, but man, the feeling was that we were a long way from catching up considering everyone's progress. But it's definitely encouraging. For a long time we were making changes to the car and we couldn't see what it was doing and whether it was improving," said the Briton.
Mercedes managed to compete with Ferrari and Red Bull for the first time at the Spanish GP. After that, more complicated races, until they were closer to their rivals again in the last two rounds. At Silverstone, Hamilton was in contention for the win until the safety car came out at the end of the race. The recent evolution makes Lewis believe he can still win this season.
"We took an important step in Barcelona, but then we had several difficult races in a row. And then we had the last race, the last two races, where we performed strongly, and that encouraged us that we are on the right track and that there is potential in the car," the seven-time champion reported.
"With a little more effort and hard work, I hope we can have more chances to win. So I really believe we can win a race this year," Lewis said.
