Hamilton reinforces belief in Mercedes' potential: "There is more to come

Lewis Hamilton took his second podium of the 2022 Formula One season at the Canadian Grand Prix. Starting fourth, the Briton overtook Fernando Alonso to finish third and equal his best result of the year, something that renewed his hopes for the potential of the Mercedes car.

"It's great to feel in the middle of the fight. For a second I was following these guys. It gave me and the team a lot of hope that there is more to come with this car, that we have potential," said the Briton after the race in Montreal.

"When you do a full race, you find out a lot about the car. We have a lot to take away from today. We have very good reliability, great work from the team. We just need to stay focused. I know where we're losing to them, so that's what I'm going to focus on to improve," Lewis explained.

The Canadian Grand Prix is a milestone in the history of the seven-time champion. It was there, in 2007, that Hamilton got his first pole-position and also the first of his 103 victories. Returning to Montreal after two years without racing because of the Covid-19 pandemic was a special moment for the Briton.

"Honestly, it was one of the best feelings of the year to be back, especially in Montreal, where I took my first win 15 years ago. To be back here, to feel this atmosphere and the fans was also very special," said the Mercedes driver.

The next race is even more important for Hamilton, since on July 3, Formula 1 returns for the British Grand Prix. The seven-time champion expects the W13 to adapt well to the circuit because of the medium- and high-speed corners, but he still fears the car's quirks.

"It's better in medium- and high-speed corners than in the low-speed ones, but we do have the twitches, so I don't know how it's going to be at Copse," Lewis concluded.
