Lewis Hamilton says it would be a mistake for Mercedes to discard the 2022 project and start work immediately on next year's car.
Although the car has shown signs of improvement recently, the seven-time world champion once again faced extreme drivability problems in Monaco.
"I pray that the car is not like it was in Monaco," Hamilton replied when asked about the next round in Baku.
As time passes and Mercedes' title chances look slimmer and slimmer, some have suggested that the team should simply discard the current concept and start working on a new philosophy for 2023.
"I haven't really thought about it," Hamilton stated. "However, I think we have to find out what is wrong with this car before we make another one. If we started building another car, we could easily make a mistake."
"I think it's important to understand this one completely, which we haven't achieved yet, to have an idea of which way to go," he added.
However, he admitted he is absolutely certain that there are "many things about this car that I wouldn't want next year."
