Lewis Hamilton laughed off Red Bull F1 boss Christian Horner's suggestion that Mercedes got their tire strategy wrong at the British GP.

After last weekend's race at Silverstone, Horner said he thought Mercedes had left Ferrari in a "quiet situation" with its tire strategy. The Red Bull boss felt that the decision to put Hamilton on hard tires instead of the faster soft compound on lap 33 cost the seven-time world champion and Mercedes their first chance at victory in 2022.

Hamilton eventually finished in P3 behind race winner Carlos Sainz and Red Bull's Sergio Perez after an intense fight to the flag after most of the leading drivers stopped to put on soft tires during the late safety-car.

"I was really surprised that Lewis, with the amount of laps ahead of him, and the degradation he showed, didn't put on the soft ones," Horner said.

"He went for the hard tire on lap 33 and I really thought he would go for the soft, because that would make it much easier for him to get more grip."

"It seemed like Ferrari might have liked that."

But Hamilton rejected Horner's claim and believes Mercedes ultimately made the right decisions given the circumstances at the time.

"I really don't care! I don't pay much attention to what is said by that guy," Hamilton laughed when asked what he thought of Horner questioning Mercedes' strategy.

"From our knowledge, from what I've been told, from our experience, the soft ones weren't going far. They were definitely faster in the first half, but there was a huge degradation in other cars that we saw."

"Did we do everything perfect? Who knows. But I think we made the right decision."

Hamilton added: "No one else was able to do the stint I did with medium tires. I don't know if anyone has done that many laps and had that performance and pace at the end with that tire."

"The question is, could I have kept going and then shortened my run on soft tires? Maybe, but in hindsight it's always easier to talk."
