Hamilton: "It's important to recognize that we haven't done the best job

Mercedes hasn't struggled as much since the introduction of the hybrid era as they have so far in 2022, but the German team seems to have started to improve almost halfway through the season. Before the British GP, where the team came out with a big upgrade package, Lewis Hamilton spoke to Channel 4 about the difficult start to their season.

The team had to get used to the sudden and disappointing performance after a long period of dominance, but Hamilton said he had no problem with it. "I don't feel bad, because my life hasn't always been like this. You just prioritize differently, change your expectations and readjust," he explained.

"Ultimately, it's important for us to realize that we haven't done the best job," the Mercedes driver acknowledged. He adds that the team needs to stay on track and keep collecting data to try things until they find something that works. "We just have to stay the course and keep collecting data and trying things," continues the Briton.

Hamilton emphasized that it was frustrating for the whole team as they were forced to slow the W13 down. "We took a lot out of the car that we couldn't use because of the quiques," he says.

Meanwhile, Mercedes seems to have finally solved this problem, but at the Austrian GP Hamilton and George Russell were clearly still far from their best pace. Things looked better at Silverstone, and that expectation also exists for the French GP, where the smooth asphalt should suit the W13 better.
