Lewis Hamilton stood on the podium for the third consecutive race after finishing third in the Austrian Grand Prix, much to his surprise. The Briton ran a strong race and finished ahead of his teammate George Russell in fourth, picking up 27 points for Mercedes.
"I definitely didn't expect that, yesterday was a tough day and we had a tough weekend," Hamilton told David Coulthard after the race, "thank you very much and what an amazing crowd we had here this weekend."
The Briton crashed Friday in qualifying, which left the engineers with a big task ahead of them and Hamilton can't be more thankful for the work they did to prepare his car for yesterday's short race and today's race.
"First of all , I want to say a big thank you to the men and women in the garage who worked so hard to rebuild the car. I had a new car on Saturday morning and, unfortunately, it's something I don't do very often" he explained.
He finished by saying, "As a team we got 3rd and 4th, which are great points and we'll take it from here. We've made some improvements this weekend, so we have to keep moving forward.
